Productivity

Welcome to change

I have a love/hate relationship with change. Change means new and new can be very good. It’s fun to experience new things, to plan for a journey, to dreamily imagine your future self who has encountered the new and mastered it. Just the mention of change has me itching to purchase a new notebook or planner. Blue of Blue’s Clues isn’t the only gal who loves her handy dandy notebook. Yay for change and double yay for all of you masters of change!

I have a confession to make: I look good on paper but when the rubber meets the road and it comes time to take physical steps toward change, I chicken out. When facing a big change, I become paralyzed and all of my former enthusiasm is swallowed up in a pit of procrastination and fear of the unknown.

Example: I recently made a move to a new state. When my husband told me we were moving, I was on the internet scoping out apartments, setting up showings, and applying for jobs within the hour. I wrote packing lists, tons of to-do lists, and a calendar into my journal. I was on it. New adventure. Yes! Did that excitement actually translate into productivity? Mehhh. I was able to land a few interviews and subsequent job or two. I did find us a place to live that met all of our criteria (though not in our price range – more on that here) but a few days before the move I hadn’t actually done much packing. If my husband (who is a doer) hadn’t done the lion’s share, I may still be up in my room in the convent, tweaking a packing list instead of actually packing.

My gratitude for God providing me with a dreamboat husband who can actually get things done is boundless. I needed momentum in my life and the Lord provided, but I’ve come to realize that in order to be the best version of myself and best partner to my husband, I need to start implementing new habits in my life and embracing the change those habits bring about. Yes, dreaded change. Lots of reading and research has led me to you dear readers, my accountability partners and community on this beautiful journey of living the lives we were created to live. Welcome. We are in this together.

Mission: Live the lives we were created to live  – aka Live Radically

Step 1: Take measure and identify ways to change.

Step 2: Take steps toward that change.

Step 3: Share journey with you.

See, told you I like to-do lists.
